What is Neuro Intensive Care?
Neuro-intensive care which is also referred to as neurocritical care is a specialised medical care or treatment facility that deals with some of the life-threatening diseases of the human nervous system. The neuro intensive care unit is a completely different unit that aims to identify, prevent and treat the problems associated with brain, spine and the overall nervous system. The doctors who take care of this department are known as the neurointensivists and at the same time, they are sufficiently trained in the fields of neurology, emergency medicine, neurosurgery or anaesthesiology.
Our Neuro Intensive Care Team
Our hospital has highly skilled and vastly experienced members in the neuro intensive care team who aim to provide the best of the services to the neurological ill patient. The neuro critical care unit runs smoothly with a collaborative effort between all the members in the department which includes –
All of the members together form the neuro-intensive care team of our hospital to offer the patients high-quality treatment so that they are able to recover quickly and effectively at the same time.
What we Offer?
The neurointensive care of our hospital offers the following neurological treatments at its best.
Acute Seizure Disorder – Seizures are caused as a result of a very sudden and disorganised electrical activity in the brain due to a number of reasons such as brain infection, brain injury, abnormal levels of glucose or sodium in blood etc. EPILEPSY is a disease usually with onset in childhood where the patients tend to have unprovoked seizures occurring without any cause. There can be a genetic etiology to it. We provide effective treatment to provoked seizure and Epilepsy.
Status Epilepticus – It is another of the very dangerous epileptic seizure which lasts for more than about five minutes. It might be a single seizure with a five minutes duration or two or more seizures occurring within a five minutes interval. Within this period the affected individual is unable to return to the normal condition. But you need not worry since our dedicated team is here to take care of everything.
Ischemic stroke: Ischemic stroke occurs due to blockage of blood vessels. It can be either thrombotic or embolic. Thrombotic stroke occurs due to disease in the arteries in the brain and in the embolic stroke the clot originates in the vessels in the neck or in the heart. We at Dr.Vanchilingam Hospital are well equipped to manage both thrombotic and embolic strokes.
Intra-Cerebral Hemorrhage(ICH): This is commonly referred to as bleeding in the brain. The commonest cause of ICH is uncontrolled systemic Hypertension. The severity of this disease is directly related to the amount of blood which has bled into the brain. It carries very high morbidity and mortality and severe cases require surgery.
Sub-Arachnoid Hemorrhage (SAH): In this disease, the bleeding is into the subarachnoid space, and it is the commonest bleeding in young adults. The commonest cause of SAH is Intracranial Aneurysms, The severity of SAH is graded from I to IV, with higher grades having a very poor prognosis even if treated early. The treatment is either surgical clipping or Endovascular Coiling both of which can be done at Dr.Vanchilingam Hopsital.
Sub Dural Hemorrhage: SDH is the very common in old people and after road traffic accidents. It causes displacement of the brain and hence the clinical symptoms. Old people can develop SDH even after trivial injuries. The treatment for SDH is mainly surgical and we at Dr.Vanchilingam Hospital have lots of experience at it.
Coma – Our neuro team takes care of the coma patients who are in the state of unconsciousness failing to respond to any stimuli without initiating any kinds of voluntary actions.
Metabolic Encephalopathies - Metabolic encephalopathy is a neurological disorder that takes into account the abnormalities of water, vitamins, electrolytes and other chemicals that affects the function of the brain adversely. Our neuro team identifies the abnormalities and rectifies them to restore the normal functionality of the brain.
Autoimmune Encephalitis – It is an autoimmune disease where the immune system of the body attacks the cells of the brain that are healthy which results in a number of neurological disorders in the affected individuals.
Meningitis/Encephalitis – It is the inflammation of the membranes of the brain and spinal cord which is typically caused due to an infection. Our experienced neurologists aim to identify the infection and eliminate it to reduce the inflammation for the curing of the patient.
Movement Disorder/Parkinson’s Disease Emergencies – These disorders are basically clinical syndromes with either excessive movement or an insufficiency of both voluntary and involuntary movements related to neurological disorders. We deal with all sorts of movement disorders especially Parkinson’s disease so that the patients can move freely.
Head Trauma / Neuro Vascular Trauma – Our neuro-intensive care unit efficiently and effectively handles all head trauma or neurovascular trauma cases which are caused by external injuries.
Our hospital also offers neuro-intensive care for the demyelinating diseases of the brain, spinal cord and the peripheral nerves which are as mentioned below.
Thus it can be very well understood that our hospital capable of providing supreme quality neuro-intensive care for almost all emergency neurological conditions that we generally come across. Therefore, if you face any kinds of neurological emergencies, just contact us so that we can take good care of you.
